D&H C424m #463 Alco C424m 463 is shown here with her ex-Genesee & Wyoming sisters, 461 and 462, in the refueling road at Mechanicville in July 1980. Photo taken from a Bill Mischler 35mm slide. Used by permission.

D&H C424m #70 Recently escaped from the "clutches" of Guilford Transport Industries, D&H C424m 70 languishes at Kenwood yard with locos of the designated operator, NYS&W in October 1990. Although this loco is painted in the "Guilford" colors, the big 'G' has been removed and replaced by the D&H shield. Photo and scan by Neil C. Hunter.

Locomotive Information:

From Mike Clements:
453     C424m   ALCO/GE 5/63    ex-D&H 453, exx-CR 2480, nee-EL 2406
455     C424m   ALCO/GE 10/63   ex-D&H 455, exx-ST 75, exxx-D&H
456, exxxx-CR 2496, nee-RDG 5207

These units were part of an order of 9 ex-EL and RDG C424's rebuilt by General Electric at Hornell, NY for the D&H in 1980 numbered 451-456 and 461-463.  They received new 2000 HP 251 prime movers.  3 of the units (461-463) were financed by Genesse & Wyoming for a run through salt train, they took them back in 1985 dropping the 4.  61 has been wrecked while 62 and 63 are now on Minnesota Commercial.  The other 6 units stayed on D&H, some of the units were transferred to ST to give D&H some cash to keep going.  When the D&H went bankrupt they took the ST units back.  CP apparently didn't want them and GTI needed the power so the lease was bought by MEC.  4 of the 6 were sold to Livonia, Avon & Lakeville 1997 while these 2 stayed on GTI property because they were unserviceable.   2 GP9's 66, 68 were traded to the lessor as replacements for these two, so I think GTI owns them outright now.  Unless someone wants them as parts units they will be scrapped. 451 - 456 were ex Conrail. 461 - 463 ex Genesee & Wyoming. All painted blue all over with yellow nose stripes.
